Saving their best for last, the Joliet Dirtbags, the fourth seed in the annual CSBL Championship Single-Elimination Tournament, defeated both the league-leading Beecher Muskies and the Westmont Red Sox to claim their third tournament championship. The Dirtbags began their day by defeating last year's champion, the Beecher Muskies, by a score of 4 - 1. They then traveled across town to DuPage Medical Group Field, the home of the Joliet Slammers, to face the Westmont Red Sox who had taken three out of four from them during the regulat season. The Red Sox had defeated the Crystal Lake Cardinals earlier in the day by a score of 11 - 4. The championship game featuring great pitching performances by both teams. But in the top of the ninth, with the score tied 2 -2, the Dirtbags plated two runs to take the lead.
