MILLLER & BECKER INDUCTED INTO CSBL HALL OF FAME

On Sunday, February 25, the CSBL gathered for its annual Awards Banquet. The event took place the Brick House Tavern in Downers Grove.  During the event, Bill Miller and Jason Becker were inducted into the CSBL Hall of Fame.  In addition, George Kontos was recognized as the 2024 Alumnus of the Year.

 

Bill Miller played all or part of nine seasons with two CSBL teams: the Addison Braves and Westmont Red Sox. He as the CSBL Player of the Year in both 2015 & 2016. Bill played four years for Trinity Christian College. With whatever team he played, Bill reflected unparalled devotion to the game and his teammates. Bill currently operates a training facility for baseball, gold and javelin athletes to help them become more powerful.

 

Jason Becker (pictured to the left) played several years in the CSBL with the Crestwood Panthers. He was the CSBL Player of the Year in 2006. Jason is a 1999 graduate of St. Joseph's College (Ind.), where he helped the Pumas to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship during his senior season in Rensselaer, Ind. He was a Division II pre-season All-American and a GLVC All-Conference shortstop in 1998 and 1999. He is currently the Head Baseball Coach for Roosevelt University in Chicago.    

 

In  2005, after his freshman year at Northwestern University, George Kontos pitched with the Lombard Orioles. That same summer he won the National Baseball Congress championship game with Prairie Gravel (also a CSBL team). The New York Yankees selected Kontos in the fifth round of the MLB draft.  He played in Major League Baseball with the Yankees, San Franciso Giants, Pittsburg Pirates, and Cleveland Indians. Kontos announced his retirement from professional baseball on July 20, 2020. He joined  NBC Sports Bay Area as a Giants pre- and postgame analyst for the 2020 season.
